Acupuncture

Traditional Acupuncture works to maintain the body's equilibrium by focusing on all aspects of wellbeing: physical, mental, emotional. Good health is not just the absence of pain and disease. According to traditional Chinese philosophy, our health is dependent on the body's motivating energy moving in a smooth and balanced way through a series of channels beneath the skin. This energy is known as qi.

The flow of qi can be disturbed by any number of factors. These include emotional states such as anxiety, anger or grief, as well as poor nutrition, infections and trauma. When the qi is unbalanced, illness may result. The Acupuncturist inserts very fine needles at chosen points which stimulate the body's own healing response and restore it to its natural balance. Treatment is aimed at the root of your condition, as well as your symptoms. This approach can lead to a more permanent resolution of your problems.

Many conditions can be successfully treated with Acupuncture such as: headaches, migraines, back pain and sciatica, digestive problems, arthritis. Addictions such as smoking and weight management can also be addressed with Acupuncture.

At the first consultation, questions will be asked about your current health problem, past medical history as well as your lifestyle and diet. Once the Acupuncturist has all the information, a treatment plan will be drawn up. The chosen points will be needled (which is virtually painless). The needles are often left in place for 20 minutes, during which time patients often fall asleep, as they find it so relaxing.
